Aiming for 2020 Elections, Ko to Nominate 34 Legislators-at-large|展雄心壯志 民眾黨將提滿34席不分區立委
Gearing up for the 2020 presidential elections, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je founded the Taiwanese People's Party, and will nominate 34 legislators-at-large. Furthermore, according to media reports, Terry Guo has met with Ko on August 1st and the two even took out poll results to discuss. Allegedly, Guo said that he would only decide on whether to run if his polls beat Han Kuo-yu by over 5 percent. When asked to confirm this report, Ko avoided a straight answer and said that it was 30 percent true, but 70 percent inaccurate.
Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je has founded the Taiwanese People's Party in preparation for the 2020 presidential and legislative elections. Furthermore, according to a magazine report, Terry Gou and Ko has already met on August 1st with Ko offering poll numbers to justify that the two of them working together had a winning edge. Terry Gou in response said, that he would only decide if his polls beat Han Kuo-yu by over 5 percent.
It's a classic 30 percent true, but 70 percent false case, but how they can fill in the blanks to this kind of extent goes beyond me.(Did you two meet?) I am not going to tell you, but what the report says is really something of a political sci-fi novel. (If Terry Gou's polls win by 5 percent) (There's a chance he might run for president?) You need to ask Terry Gou.
Facing talks about his meet-up with Gou, Ko neither admits nor denies. In the report, it said that Ko suggested Gou that they should each nominate half of the list of the legislators-at-large. In response, Ko said that he hadn't thought of that, but he can confirm that his new party will nominate the full 34 places for legislators-at-large. As for regional legislators, he will look for candidates that can win or influence the outcome of the elections.
The last time the New Power Party nominated legislators-at-large, they had a faulty strategy. He nominated six, and Huang Kuo-chang quit, and the whole party disbanded. (Is it because the main members are all gone?) No, but you need at least three to form a party. For us, we are clear about our legislators-at-large - these people's goal is to execute Ko-Wen-je's will at the Legislative Yuan.
Ko is full of hope in setting up for the presidential elections, but as his new party allows members to have two party memberships, popular Taiwan YouTuber Holger Chen has criticized that it would attract lousy members. Ko in response said, that this mechanism is to break the old habit of the zero sum thinking between the Kuomintang and Democratic Progressive Party.
