Illegal Car Services Pop Up as Train Services Suspended|北迴鐵路停駛 花蓮車站白牌車違規攬客

Typhoon Lekima continues moving in a northerly direction. On the morning of Aug. 9, the Central Weather Bureau lifted the land warning for Hualien. However, as Taiwan Railways Administration had suspended North-Link Line services, many illegal car services were offering rides outside Hualien Railway Station.

Although Hualien City was no longer experiencing wind and rain from Typhoon Lekima, Taiwan Railways Administration did not resume its Eastern Line services. Many passengers waited at Hualien Railway Station. Outside the station, illegal car services were trying to get passengers, offering to take them to Taipei via the Suhua Highway for NT$6,500 or to Luodong for NT$4,500, which was NT$2,000 more than the normal price. Those who were pressed for time had no other choice, but complained that the price increase was too high. The Hualien County Police Department's Traffic Police Brigade said cracking down on illegal car services is the work of supervisory agencies and at present they have not asked the police for assistance.
