Torrential Rains Wreaking Havoc in Kaohsiung|高雄大豪雨特報 85條土石流紅黃色警戒
The Central Weather Bureau has issued an Extremely Heavy Rain Advisory for Kaohsiung. It continues to rain in mountainous areas. There are as many as 85 red and yellow landslide and rockslide alerts across the city. The city government announced the cancellation of work and class in five districts including Namasia, Taoyuan, Liouguei, Maolin and Jiasian early in the morning. Taoyuan, Namasia and Liouguei received over 350 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, which caused many collapsed roads in mountainous areas. The road in front of one campsite was buried under a mudslide, cutting off traffic. Fortunately, there was only the campsite operator's family on site and no tourists were trapped there.
The road and drainage ditches are invisible under the torrent of muddy water. At one point, a car was literally floating down the road. Due to the continuous torrential rain in Kaohsiung's Liouguei, many mountainous roads are completely unusable.
This temple on Provincial Highway 28 is situated in a low-lying area and temple workers had to stop fighting a losing battle against the mud pouring in. One campsite in the mountains was also cut off from the outside world after the road in front of it was buried under a landslide. Fortunately, no tourists were there at the time. The operator's family, which was on site, is awaiting assistance.
The road was severed over there. After that, the Directorate-General of Highways wanted to elevate it. (Where did all this water come from?) From the mountains. The water has to pass this way. You can see the obstruction over there.
The Water Resources Bureau says Taoyuan received 490 millimeters of rain and Namasia 432 millimeters of rain in the 24 hours ending 7 a.m. on the 16th. There were 85 red and yellow landslide warnings in effect across the city and work and class were suspended in five districts, including Namasia, Taoyuan, Liouguei, Maolin and Jiasian.
It's the same. It's still the Provincial Highway 29 and Xi'anshan area. The torrential rain (on Aug. 15) caused some land and rockslides and falling rocks.
We have evacuated residents to a temporary shelter.
As of press time, 3,566 people have been evacuated across the city including 1,256 in Namasia. Residents will only be allowed to return home when the warnings have been lifted.
