TRA Website Crashes Seconds After Holiday Tickets Go On Sale|台鐵國慶連假車票開賣 網站大當機惹怨
Around midnight, Taiwan Railways began selling tickets for trains running during between Oct. 9 and Oct. 14, which is the National Day long weekend. However, many residents of eastern Taiwan say the system crashed immediately after midnight and there was no way for them to get tickets.
Taiwan Railways tickets for the National Day holiday went on sale online at midnight on the 25th. Due to the spike in traffic, the system crashed within seconds. By the time the site started working again 40 minutes later, there were virtually no seats left.
I logged on at 12 a.m. sharp and all I saw was the little spinning circle. I couldn't get into the website. It said their network was disconnected.
I logged at 12 and all there was the spinning circle. The website started working again after about a minute but it said I was unable to buy a ticket. (Did you try refreshing the page?) It didn't work.
Taiwan Railways says it will operate 205 additional trains from Oct. 9 to Oct. 14 to meet demand, including 16 East Coast Main Line trains with discounted fares. Seats on Tzu Chiang Express trains have already sold out.
Our fourth-generation ticketing system works fine most of the time. Of course, the spike in traffic when holiday tickets go on sale makes the system crash.
In response to complaints from eastern Taiwan residents about its fourth-generation ticketing system, Taiwan Railways says tickets available only to Hualien residents with ID card numbers starting with the letter "U" or "V" will go on sale on the 26th. It also says unclaimed tickets will be released on the 27th and everyone can check for newly available seats on the Taiwan Railways website.
