Train Tickets During Chinese New Year Sold Out in 20 Minutes|台鐵春節訂票網頁順暢 熱門時段20分售完
The Taiwan Railways Administration did a trial run of its new, updated ticket booking website. As a result, the ticketing process on the web went more smoothly compared to previous years. Within 20 minutes, tickets for the more popular routes were all sold out.
The new and updated ticket booking website of the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) has been much more streamlined than before. One only needs to enter the point of departure and number for specific trains to find out whether the tickets have been booked. In the past, one had to wait for a while for the system to process all the information.
I once bought two tickets to travel from Kaohsiung City to Chishang Township in two stages. I wasn't easy to get those tickets.
I always bought tickets for whichever trains that still remained. So I felt the purchase process was somewhat easy.
Many among the public have felt the speed increase for the new website. Since the ticket sale began early morning, over 220,000 tickets have been sold by 9 a.m. Tickets for the more popular trains, such the southbound Tze-Chiang Express Trains traveling to Taitung and Hualien on the Lunar New Year's Eve, and the northbound trains scheduled for January 4th of lunar calendar have all been sold. The TRA said that they stress-tested the new website before opening it to public use, hence the purchase process was quite smooth for everybody. Those who haven't got their hands on tickets could still purchase seats that are registered in their names.
Our initial goal was to make sure the public could complete the booking process swiftly. Based on our observation, over 70,000 tickets were sold in the first 10 minutes.
Freeway Bureau has also announced measures that will be put in place to minimize highway congestions during the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays. All highways will be toll-free between January 23 and January 29. On the morning of the first, second and third day on the lunar calendar, the southbound section of National Freeway No.5 will be limited to vehicles with at least three passengers. Similar limits will be imposed on Highway No.5 and the northbound directions of highways in western Taiwan on the afternoon of day three, four and five on the lunar calendar.
