Military Helicopter Crash Receives International Coverage|黑鷹失事參謀總長等8人殉職 國際媒體關注

Eight people were killed, including Chief of the General Staff General Shen Yi-ming, when a military Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Jan. 2. This incident was widely reported by the international media, including the United States' Voice of America, CNN, and Reuters, as well as Japan's NHK and South Korea's Yonhap Television News. American Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley and Senator Chris Coons sent their condolences to Taiwan.

In Taiwan, eight people have been killed after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the mountains near the capital of Taipei. The island's top military chief is among the dead. Only five of the 13 people on board survived that crash.

This morning, a military helicopter carrying 13 people crashed in northeast Taiwan. Eight Ministry of National Defense officers died.

The Japanese news outlets that reported on the incident included NHK and Yomiuri Shimbun. One article quoted Taiwan's media, saying that a same model helicopter had crashed two years ago, killing six. South Korea's media focused on both the accident and the upcoming elections.

A Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Taiwan and killed eight military officers, including the chief of the general staff. Elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th. President Tsai Ing-wen and Kuomintang candidate Han Kuo-yu have suspended their election campaigns to express their condolences.

He also said the U.S. cherishes its friendship and strong defense relationship with Taiwan. Senator Chris Coons tweeted "Taiwan's military suffered a great loss with the helicopter crash that took the lives of General Shen Yi-Ming and seven fellow service members" and "I stand with Taiwan in this time of national sorrow and I reiterate my ongoing commitment to U.S. support for Taiwan's security."

這件黑鷹直升機事故,也同時驚動美方高層。美國參謀總長密利發函為罹難軍人致哀,感念沈一鳴的無私奉獻,表示美方珍惜與台灣的友誼與堅定的國防關係。美國聯邦參議員昆斯也在推特表示,台灣國防因為這起意外遭受巨大損失,重申美方承諾確保台灣安全的立場。
