Southern Taiwan Receives 300 mm of Rain in 24 Hours|高屏24小時雨量逾300毫米 災情頻傳
Persistent rain brought by southwestern flow led to severe flooding in Kaohsiung and Pingtung County, as the two regions received over 300 millimeters of rain in 24 hours. Roads in Kaohsiung's Dashu, Renwu, and Niaosong and Pingtung's Yanpu were submerged, affecting traffic. There was also falling rocks and mudslides in Wutai and Chunri.
Pouring rain turned Alley 86 of Kaohsiung's Fengren Road into a river on the morning of the 22nd, disrupting traffic and threatening stores.
The water is so deep it makes driving (a moped) difficult.
(In the past), the water level would only hit about up to here with this kind of rain. Since last year, the water level started reaching up to here.
The water eventually reached National Freeway 10, causing rush hour congestion. On Zuoyin's Liantan Road, water from drainage ditches overflowed onto the road.
With flooding in Zuoying, Renwu, Niaosong, and Dashu, police had to close several roads. In Pingtung, floodwaters also forced the closure of roads around Tajen University.
There are contractors working on it upstream. There's just too much debris from up there that's flowing down our way.
Pingtung's Chunri Township received over 400 millimeters of rain in a 24-hour span, resulting in mudfalls in Lili Village and falling rocks in Wutai Township. Pingtung's glass suspension bridge, Chuhuo Special Scenic Area, and Sichongxi Hot Springs Park were all closed for the day.
