Nature Trail in Puli Township Cut Off After Earthquake|埔里南村里台14線生態步道 邊坡落石阻路
A severe slope collapse happened next to a nature trail in Puli Township's Nancun Borough after several days of heavy rain and an earthquake. Before the government's assistance arrived, local farmers, residents and Taipower repair workers risked their lives to remove the debris.
Taipower workers look up to see if any rocks are falling down.
(What are you going to do in there?) Fix things. (Over there by the power plant?) Yes.
Days of heavy rain have resulted in rockslides and landslides in mountainous areas. A 4.6-magnitude earthquake early on the 29th sent debris pouring down on the nature trail near Provincial Highway 14's Guanyin No. 3 Tunnel. With 20 meters of the road cut off, Taipower workers who were scheduled to make repairs in the area had to risk their lives to get in.
After being notified this morning of malfunctioning equipment, workers were dispatched for repairs. They found the road blocked and couldn't (enter) the area.
Local residents and farmers use the road every day. With access cut off, they had to climb up and over debris. The Puli Township Office sent out workers in the morning.
Our agricultural products are in there, and people and residents need the road to get in and out. The recent rain has already made transportation inconvenient and affected our products, and there's no alternate road we can use. The township office will therefore try to clear and reopen the road as soon as possible.
Puli's township chief says there have been no bids on Nancun Borough's open contract, but the road is very important to locals and it must be repaired as soon as possible. The township office will therefore try to get the necessary heavy equipment sent to the area.
