The “2026 World Grand Prix Taipei Open to the World,” co-organized by the Department of Sports, Taipei City Government, and the Taiwan Sports Dance Development Association, concluded successfully yesterday (March 28) at Taipei Arena. The event has brought together over 700 elite dancers from 25 countries, competing on the same stage and attracting thousands of spectators, creating a vibrant and electrifying atmosphere.

Commissioner Yu Chu-Ping of the Department of Sports stated that Taipei City continues to promote international sports exchange and diversified sports development. By hosting high-caliber international dance sport competitions, the City not only provides a platform for outstanding domestic dancers to connect with the global stage, but also enables citizens to experience world-class performances up close. These efforts further strengthen Taipei's soft power as an international sports city.

This year's competition features participation from the world's top 24 professional dancers. Distinguished guest performers include legendary pairs such as Victor da Silva and Ekaterina Krysanova, world professional exhibition dance champions, as well as Stas Portanenko and Nataliya Kolyada, world professional ballroom dance runners-up, who delivered spectacular performances.

Dancers representing Taiwan also delivered strong performances across multiple categories. Shih Yu-Jun and Gu Dong-Yu, along with Tu Hao-Ying and Mariia Krupytska, competed in the World Professional Open category. Rising talents Wang Tzu-Lun and Chi Tzu-Hsuan, as well as Lin Shih-Hsuan and Li Jo-Hua, contended in the International Amateur Open category. In addition, young dancers Liu Ai-Yun and Lin Yung-Wei participated in the Under-18 and Under-14 solo categories, striving to achieve top honors on home ground.

In addition to the competition, the event continues its "Dance King Seedling Hope Project" charitable initiative, designed to support underprivileged yet talented young dancers in pursuing their dreams. Led by world-renowned Blackpool champions, the charity donation campaign was launched on-site. Donors received limited-edition commemorative EasyCards, and the initiative was met with enthusiastic public participation. The organizers hope to see more "Dance King seedlings" shine on the global stage in the future.

In the highly anticipated finals held yesterday, world-class dancers competed at the highest level, delivering performances of exceptional intensity and artistry. In the Professional Open Standard category, Ukraine’s Stas Portanenko and Nataliya Kolyada claimed the championship title with their refined technique and elegant style. In the Professional Open Latin category, China’s Luo Quan-Jun and Deng Yan-Yan secured first place with an outstanding and dynamic performance.

Despite facing fierce international competition, dancers representing Taiwan demonstrated remarkable composure and resilience. Tu Hao-Ying and Mariia Krupytska, alongside Shih Yu-Jun and Gu Dong-Yu, delivered impressive results in the Professional Open Standard category, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, earning strong recognition from the international judging panel. In the Amateur Open Latin category, Wang Tzu-Lun and Chi Tzu-Hsuan, as well as Lin Shih-Hsuan and Li Jo-Hua, also achieved outstanding results, placing third and fifth respectively.

In addition, Taiwan’s grassroots talent development was on full display. Liu Ai-Yun delivered a standout performance to win first place in the Under-18 Solo Standard (Group A) category, highlighting the rising international competitiveness of Taiwan’s next generation of dancers and adding another remarkable achievement to the nation’s sporting record.

The Department of Sports stated that it will continue to promote the long-term development of the "World Grand Prix Taipei Open to the World" in Taipei. By integrating sports, performance, and public welfare, the City aims to further enhance Taipei's brand as an international sports city, using dance as a universal language to connect with the world while showcasing the city’s vibrant energy and charm.
