Tsai's Stimulous Voucher Program Blasted by Public|振興券7月15日上路 下週二說明具體辦法
Former President Ma Ying-jeou criticizes the Tsai Administration over its stimulus package, saying the current government didn't issue vouchers directly because it was first created by his administration. In response, Premier Su Tseng-chang said the Ma administration's consumer vouchers did nothing to help the economy and the Tsai administration simply doesn't want to make the same mistake. As public criticism has been pouring in, Ministry of Economic Affairs says more details regarding the stimulus package will be announced on June 2.
The public is criticizing the Tsai administration for not only refusing to distribute cash subsidies, but also not distributing stimulus vouchers until July 15. Former President Ma Ying-jeou says the Tsai administration has dragged its feet on voucher distribution because vouchers were an initiative first used in his administration. In response, Premier Su Tseng-chang claimed the Ma administration's consumer vouchers did absolutely nothing for economic growth and said the Tsai administration refuses to make the same mistake.
Ma Ying-jeou's consumer vouchers were evaluated by the Control Yuan. The Control Yuan decided they did not help economic growth at all. We are keeping this lesson in mind so we don't make the same mistake.
Both ruling and opposition lawmakers say not distributing the vouchers until July is too little, too late. In addition, pan-blue lawmakers said Ma's consumer vouchers are a thorn in the DPP's side and called on the DPP to stop putting politics over the economy. According to reports, the stimulus vouchers will come in two forms, paper and electronic. Citizens will have to shell out NT$1,000 to get a NT$3,000 paper voucher, which can only be used at post offices and convenience stores. E-vouchers will require NT$3,000 spending to get NT$2,000 back.
(Tsai's) stimulus vouchers are nothing more than discounted consumer vouchers. There's no way they will be effective. We are still hoping for cash distributions.
Even we think it's too little, too late. We have distributed a lot of stimulus cash. As for stimulating the economy, these stimulus vouchers will definitely have a multiplier effect.
The Executive Yuan will make a public announcement around next Tuesday.
Public criticism has been pouring in. The Executive Yuan will have Su explain relevant details to the public on June 2.
